What Is Air?

What is air

Have you ever asked yourself what air actually is ? Sure, it’s a gas but what is air made up of and why is it so important?

Air is actually a mixture of gases that surround the Earth. It contains important substances, including oxygen, that most living things require to survive.

What is air made up of ?

Standard Dry Air is the mixture of gases that make up the air at sea level. Standard Dry Air is made up of nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, neon, helium, krypton, hydrogen, and xenon.  When we say “ the air we breathe”,  this mixture of gases is what we are referring to. However, this mixture does not include water vapor because  the amount of water in air varies and changes, based upon the humidity and the temperature of each place. Air masses are constantly moving, therefore Standard Dry Air varies from place to place.

Nitrogen and oxygen make up more than  90% of the air we breathe. Oxygen is necessary for the survival of all living things. Nitrogen is a substance that we breathe without absorbing or consuming any of it.

The importance of clean air

The air we breathe is made up mostly of oxygen and nitrogen. Pretty simple, right? This is the composition of  what we refer to as “clean air” or “fresh” air. We are all familiar with the benefits and importance of “clean air” to humans.  Some scientists suggest that if the air that we breathe was ONLY made up of the elements mentioned above, we as humans would  probably have a doubled or maybe even tripled lifespan.

Unfortunately in the world we live in today, our air is exposed to countless pollutants and contaminants that come in various forms. According to several studies indoor air is found to be 10 times more polluted than outdoor air. Many of these biological contaminants that are found in indoor air  are harmful to health and can cause allergies, and sometimes lead to more serious health conditions.

In addition to going out for regular walks, opening windows to “air out” a room,  or just spending more time outside there are additional steps you can take to make sure you get access to clean air on a daily basis . One of the best ways to improve the quality of your air and life is getting an air cleaner for your home and office environments. The newest HEPA technology filters and cleans the air up to 99.7%.  It has been found that these devices can prolong an individual’s life for up to 7 whole years!

In addition to managing  issues one might have including allergies, asthma and other respiratory conditions , an air cleaner is beneficial for anyone who wants to improve the quality of their life.
